Do you like him? I say that too even if you are a couple years older than me and I don't know you. But then again I am from Tennessee. I was taught by older country southerners about respecting my elders and parents or else you get a whooping (today's world they would be locked up for child abuse.) I'm just 24. I have womem my mom age who I work with tell me to stop they're not old but they do understand I was raised to respect them but STOP. Lol the best way to see why but in a playful way say you must see me as a grandma instead of a young lady. If he ask why you say that. Then you say cause you telling me ma'am. Do I look old? If you like him then also ask what can I do for you to see me as a young dateable (a word I just made up I think lol) lady

He might not mean any harm by it but to show you respect. How would he know you don't like for him to say that to you if you don't tell him. Men are not mind readers. Pet names is good thing are you sure he's not from or lived in the south growing up? When you all are laughing and smiling or you feel their is a positive vibe and or good energy just say "hey can I ask you something? Why do you refer to me as ma'am?" ... After he tell you the reason you can go from there. tell him you don't like for him to call you ma'am. Just as easy as that. Then change the subject and talk about his day or talk about a movie that's out and say you would like to see it. You could possibly end up on a date.
