Does it mean anything if a guy is protective over you?

He is my friend and he will like try to make sure any of the guys I don't like don't sit next to me and if they are he'll just fly in to the rescue. One time he heard two guys were making fun of me he got mad. Whenever I'm alone he's there to comfort me and make me smile. Even one time one of his best friends atm was flirting with me he warned me that he was sort of a jerk. Why is he so protective? I'm not complaining, he is a great friend but he is the only one that is protective to the point where I'd officially say that he's protective. Why does he look out for me so much?

In the strict definition MEN AND WOMEN CANNOT BE "FRIENDS."
they can be Friendly however.
If he is being protective of you it is because he likes you. If your just "Friends" he won't care.
