Does it mean anything when a guy tries to be protective with you?

Long story short, in my martial arts class i was going to use a wired jump rope for some calf muscle exercise, and i heard him whispering to his brother about me possibly getting hurt by the jump rope. I looked back and he stared at me and told me that the jump rope would hurt me. I told him i knew already and thanked him for being concerned. It confused me because he is typically a shy guy, and there was a girl using the jump rope before me and he said nothing to her. I'm guessing because we are somewhat friends, he was just being polite. Any other thoughts?

He's into you, since he's shy he is not admitting. Just try finding some other signs of attraction also if you are into him, drop some hint for him to pick up.

Maybe he's more concerned about you because you are somewhat friends or he likes you.

He was probably just being nice or maybe it was a way for him to try to initiate a conversation with you
