What are signs that a guy is being protective?

By protective I don't mean a jealous boyfriend who threatens to beat up a guy who so much as looks at his girlfriend.

I have this feeling that this guy that I know and am kind of acquaintances with is into me and he seems to be protective of me...

There are several things, some examples would be: he paid for my food when my credit card wasn't working, he has lead me by putting his hand on the small of my back, when I saw him over my break at work I went over without a coat in freezing weather (my manager keeps his office where my coat was locked and gets p*ssy any time anyone wants in) and he was concerned and asked if I was cold (however he was working and his boss and customers were there, so its not like he could warm me up... I think he would be too shy for that anyway), he is always quick to help me when I see him at work (quicker than he is with other customers), etc etc.

But less about him and more about... how do guys act? Guys - if you feel protective, what types of things do you do? Do you ever feel protective of girls who you just like who aren't your girlfriend?

It's basically just like the things he does for you. Pay for you when you don't have money, or even if you do, make sure your warm if it's cold out, if you are having trouble with a guy (jealous ex or something) we'll make sure he doesn't try to hurt you or anything.

Your friend sounds like a nice guy, there aren't many of us, but if you find one those would defiantly be signs that he cares for you.
