What does it mean when a guy protects you?

This guy I have been dating for a few months protected me from being hit by a car yesterday. We were walking hand in hand on the sidewalk (he was on the side closest to the road) and a car swerved up onto the sidewalk right where we were. As it was swerving he pushed me away from the car and blocked me with his body from possibly getting hit. This happened all in a split second, so i would say it was pretty instinctual. Is this something a guy would just normally do, or is it a sign that he values me a lot and wants to protect me.

If it's a split-second instinct, I think it's something that's a part of him and his values to protect others. He'd likely do it for others as well in danger.

This idea of "protect the women and children" seems somewhat rooted in biology. It's not necessarily the result of a sexist style of social conditioning. Women and children have a higher intrinsic biological value for the human species to survive. This idea of men sacrificing themselves to save their women and children is something found in all sorts of disparate cultures throughout history.

If anything, I think it requires social conditioning for guys *not* to do this.

It is instinctive. If he has to think about whether he values you or not, you are dead.

Means he likes you and want to show he is a real man who can protect and provide for you.
