Im not a fan of someone who is friends with me calling me pet names. It feels odd and can be uncomfortable. I feel like those names should be reserved for someone who you are in a relationship with.
So what if he likes you? You should go on a date with him and see if there's a connection.
He clearly likes you, how long do you know him and are you already taken? If you are already taken maybe that's why he is reserved
