Guys, Why does he only call when he's drunk?

Question

I was seeing a guy for a few months and things didn't work out. Now once a month he calls or texts late at night asking me to meet him at a bar or wanting to come over. He's always drunk and high. When I see him he tells me how much he likes me. We've never had sex. When he comes over we just fool around until we fall asleep. He always stays the night and when he leaves in the morning says he'll text me later, which he doesn't and I know he won't. When I see him out at the bar a few days later he won't talk to me or look at me. I still have feelings for him and can't say no when he calls. Is he just using me because he knows I'll answer? Can I believe him when he says he likes me? Why does he keep calling me?

You understand that drugs/booze loosens up the pent up inhibitions & releases any cares about rejection to even odd proposals, ergo the invitations that hope to end in sex.

It doesn't end in sex so this and his drunken acts weigh on him as embarrassments to harsh to face, ergo NOT acknowledging you face-face for awhile when sober.

You can believe he lusts after you and perhaps DOES get something warm & fuzzy out of spending a celibate night with you.

He's shy. Also every time you fool around he wants to have sex but he's waiting for you to innitiate. Then he leaves and realizes how lame that is and is mortified of talking to you because he didn't "man up". So he doesn't text until he inevitably gets drunk enough that it cuts through the anxiety and he just acts on instinct, telling you how he feels. Rinse and repeat.

Probably because he's not himself. When he's clean, it's REAL and he has to deal with his feelings. When he's drunk or high, he doesn't care about that. That's not to say what he's saying isn't true, he's just able to say it without thinking or worrying about it at all.
