Why did he stop initiating conversations but responded enthusiastically when I initiated one?

Met a guy online and I messaged first because that's how this app works, he got my number and started texting me. He initiated convos about 4 times, but then stopped initiating so I started a conversation three days after he stopped and he responded really enthusiastically. He vaguely asked me out, but hasn't texted me since that convo, so it's been a week and i'm wondering if I should message him again?

I'm guessing this is Bumble? I usually do this actually. If I've been initiating conversations every day, sometimes I'll wait for the girl to initiate. She has a brain, surely she can talk about something by herself without it being a response. Or then it's a one way street and it seems like they're not that interested in you. If they can't come up with anything, sayonara.

so I did message him and first few messages were fine and he seemed engaged but then i said something else funny and all he gave me was a "haha"... so i was like kay whatever this is stupid (i didn't say that obvs). I don't understand why people seem so interested and then basically ask you out and make u look forward to it but then nothing..

Ask him a question you can only answer with a yes/no. Just ask him "do you want to go on a date?". If he doesn't reply definitely, time to move on from him.

lol honestly I'm very stubborn and the fact that I've shown obvious interest and messaged him this many times I'm really not up for making myself look desperate. If he was really into me he could easily message me like he used to...

so update lol, i messaged this guy again and it was a whatever convo, but then last week he randomly messaged me asking about something random since he thought he saw me somewhere and then he continued the convo from there. Then it ended and he hasn't messaged me again, so i'm confused, like if I ever thought i saw someone who i wasn't interested in, i wouldn't go out of my way to message them "hey i think i saw you" type thing i guess? so whats the deal i'm so lostttt lol
