I often catch my best male friend looking at my butt and boobs. He looks away quickly when I notice. Is this typical guy stuff?

There is no such thing as a single, hetero guy who is "just friends" with an attractive girl. Guys aren't designed that way - we don't have a "just want to be friends" classification for girls. We put girls in 3 categories when it comes to personal relationships:

- Girls I have feelings for and want a relationship with.
- Girls I don't have feelings for but find physically attractive and thus want to bang.
- Girls I don't find physically attractive and thus want nothing to do with.

Does anyone see "just want to be friends with" on that list? Nope. It isn't there. Do not be fooled.

A guy who is gay, asexual, or happily in a committed relationship can (sometimes) be "just friends" with a girl, but a single straight guy? You've got better odds of winning the Lotto.

For the whole 3 years of our friendship I was in a relationship so I guess I was safe to just be friends with. Now recently single is it likely then he won't want to be friends with me if he doesn't think of me in a sexual way?

It usually doesn't work that way. Rather, the guy is "friends" with you hoping that he'll eventually get you in bed. Now that you're single, he's hoping you "see that he's a good guy" and give him a shot. I'm not saying that stuff like that actually happens very often - it's the exception when it does - but in his mind, he's hoping that it will happen.

If you were to kill all hope - by telling him that you don't see him that way and nothing will EVER happen between you - then you'll see him fade away... BECAUSE you'll have destroyed his primary reason for hanging around with you (the hope of eventual sex or even eventual relationship).

Such guys will stay in your orbit for years, even decades sometimes, hoping for a chance. He may have other girls in a similar situation, hoping one of them gives in - but you need to understand that guys need a reason to make the effort to be friends with a girl (most are very needy), and (the hope of) sex is that motivation.

That's not true for every male. My best friend has been a girl since kindergarten, and even when I wasn't dating anyone in middle or high school, I just wanted to be friends with her. She is attractive as well by the way. Now we're both in relationships with other people.

Thanks for your reply, I love hearing how guys think because they can be hard to understand. Unfortunately it is the reverse here. He told me he loved me while drunk and then that he sees me as a friend a week later so now we are just friends. I guess maybe I have to much baggage or he doesn't see me as a long term partner. Someone wins the Lotto almost every week, too - but that doesn't mean you should run up your credit cards on the ultra-remote chance that you'll win this week and will be able to pay them off. Similarly, girls can safely assume that their guy friends want to fuck her (and in some cases want a relationship with her), because the vast majority of the time, they'll be right. You won't be successful playing the exception against the rule very often.

I think a lot of women like the security of being in a relationship. Personally I have always been in relationships and I am now enjoying life as a single person however I can't help it if I start to have feeling for someone. Sorry I don't really know why we do what we do 😁

Me and my best girl friend are strictly friends and she's made it clear that she doesn't want a relationship. The thing is, at one time she had a crush on me when I didn't and vice versa. So under extremely unusual circumstances we are friends. I'll say though, every once in a blue moon some sexual energy does rise a bit. But it's rare. The thing is that psychologically, guys have a hard time trying not to "check out" a girl... It's generally normal... but you do have to be on a lookout for any potential jerk coming your way. Having said that, I believe that it is "okay" up to some extent... but if it's in excess then, that is where it would become weird. And it is also possible that he isn't exactly looking out there. So overall, I think it is kind of normal, but not if it's in excess.
