Cause as men we know that guys are fuckin total creeps. And even though we know there are plenty of guys checking out our girls ass we can't do shit about it. Like, I know what that guy's doing and I have to shut up and deal with it. Sometimes the "protection" gets taken too far and sometimes in an effort not to piss her off I'll not do enough. Basically it's a really shitty situation for both sides! Basically a fair amount of us just do their best and flail around not wanting to accept that we can't do anything about other creepy dudes

Men are naturally protective of women and territory. To protect we do anything to keep what we love safe.

Since the primitive ages, men have always been the protectors and the providers. These tendencies are hard wired into the male brain.

As soon as man falls in love with a woman, he looks to be protective towards her. He will walk her home, give her a lift to the office, hold her hand while crossing the road and stuff like that.

And nothing makes a man happier than to realize that the object of his love actually feels secure in his company.

      @BMW12

Definitely buddy we all are living in 21st Century.

I’m not American but I think that’s the difference:

A mangina is totally sick, a pure lackey, he see himself as inferior to women and his main desire is to serve women in hope to get their approval. He have ZERO chances to get laid unless in a marriage or a long-term relationship. He’s very weak, both in brain and body, and that’s why the term: “man-vagina”, practically like an eunuch but with also a feminized brain.

A white knight is a relatively healthier man that have some chances to get laid even outside a marriage, but not so much: he hopes to improve his chances to get laid by protecting women from every real or imaginary threat.
He try do not act as an inferior to women: he try to act as a strong man protecting damsels-in-distress.

I can't tell you why someone feels what they feel. But I loved my girlfriend from the bottom of my heart. And after a four year relationship she cheated on me. Stuff like that leaves scars. I think I'd be justified if I'm a bit overprotective about the next girl I date. Ofc I'd make my best effort to not let it get annoying. But still.

I think that's more of a generalisation to come up with such a assumption like that. I think that it's more down to the content of that person rather than the gender

It's literally programmed into our DNA. Even the pitch of your voice is designed to elicit protective instincts. That's why pre-pubescent boys sound like girls - so they are protected by adult males and not perceived as a potential threat to them.

Because society instructs us that being men means protecting the women in our lives. Too many guys build their identity based on that.

What do you mean overprotective? Where is the line between protective and over-protective? Isn't that subjective?

Protectiveness comes out of care and affection
More the care and affection, more the protectiveness

It's purely instinct. Much like how girls want a man taller than them, so they can "feel protected".

How do you mean specifically? I've heard that used to imply a dude is controlling or jealous so I'm not sure.

Something to consider is that there's MY definition of 'overprotective..'

    .. then there's EVERYONE ELSE'S definition.

    So you'll have to specify.

if im overprotective about her, then i really truly love her, and i would literally kill that person, if he/she tries to hurt her.

Not all are like that of course. It definitely shows their level of love towards them, although at an abnormally unnecessary level.
