Why do guys treat girls like children?

I am aware of the fact that everyone is different in their behavior and not every guy doing this.

But really why do guys treat some girls like children?

The thing is that I am quite tall (5''7/5''8/174) and quite... voluptuous. Many people think that I am 19 or 20 while I am actually underage, so no I don't look like a child.
I also don't act like a child or talk with a baby voice.

So why do guys treat me like a child? I'm not cute and I certainly don't need them to tell me what to do, or when to do or them to be overprotective, especially when I don't know them.

It's not even that my ex boyfriend would not let me leave his house when I wanted to (when we fought as example) and carry me back up like a toddler. (which by the way is not cute because I want my wishes to be respected)

It's that a stranger, whom I met through a friend (to only talk to him to learn the language he and my friend speak which I am learning, who lives eleven hours away from me (per plane)) literally calls me baby and talks to me like one would talk with a baby and it's honestly not really nice.

This is not the only case of this happening because almost every male I was in contact with that was around my age (mostly 2-3 years older though) thinks they have to treat me like a baby.

It can be cute sometimes but if you are constantly being treated like a child it starts feeling weird. Being treated like a child often also means the one person not respecting the other person, which is toxic in ANY relationship.

So why do you do that? I just can't understand it...

I am a man and women have spoken down to me too and I don't tolerate it at all. Please don't kid yourself in even implying that this is gender-specific regardless of you claiming you know not every guy does this.

I know not every man does this and that men get treated like that too. But the first thing I said was exactly THAT I know not everyone does it. Also I am not saying this is gender specific, it just happens a lot to me, so I asked.

So why not word your question as gender-neutral instead of making it seem loaded?

well because in my case it is males treating me (female) like that. so I am asking why males especially treat me / females like that, I never get girls doing that to me. I could make it gender neutral but I don't see a point in that as I am specifically wanting to know why GUYS do it and putting it gender neutral would mean that the answers I get would be for girls too, which is not what I am looking for.

But you said this isn't gender-specific or are you just using your question as a cover to affirm a theory of men mistreating women? Has it not occurred that a man who's spoken down to you as his significant other and not you as a woman? Can it not be the case that a woman has spoken down to her boyfriend for the same "reason" a man has spoken down to his girlfriend?
By limiting your response base, you're limiting the plausible answers, not just the invalid ones.

okay first of all there are worse things than talking down to somebody. and no I am not saying that men mistreat women - some women like being treated like a child. nor am I saying that every men does this. personally it just happens a lot to me and I wanted to ask people why, I don't understand how this is a bad thing... Also, like I said in the description, it was not only my ex boyfriend but also guys I have just been talking to... I don't see any need to discuss this though...

That's not what I'm getting at. You're asking why people treat people as if it's a guy thing. By only asking guys why they treat women like children, you could be limiting if not denying yourself an answer. The reasons why some women treat men children can be the same for men doing it to women, can't they?
