Why do guys show interest then pull away?

This guy confuses me because he was continuously in my Instagram DM (direct message) continuously sending emojis, and making conversation (1). Finally, we had another conversation (2) because the first conversation was cut off because I felt like I was bothering so we decide to talk to one another later. He was asking questions about have I loved anyone? Am I looking? and such a long conversation but since I had to go to bed that was the end of it.

I am now being respectful enough to reciprocate anything including conversation and out of nowhere he just disappears. Doesn’t even like my pictures anymore just views my Instagram stories.. I dm’d him days later saying hey and he replied pretty fast and it wasn’t a long conversation just simple. He mentioned how I’ve been dressing up lately and I gave my response while he says he was glad that I had fun so I said thanks.

Just a like on my comment and he disappears.. he mentioned he was off and I disappeared to Snapchat and occupied myself. He viewed the snap and when I replied to his dm he didn’t reply till 8 hours later while posting online ! so I read it and didn’t reply ! Oh well.

After that second conversation when we both said good night he just vanishes. What was all of that for if you’re not interested in me? I didn’t make first initiations.
