Why won’t my boyfriend say that he loves me after 2 years?

My boyfriend has only ever told me he loves me once, and we were really drunk. I never said it back because he was drunk. I brought it up afterwards to see if he remembered and he did, and didn’t deny or accept what he’d said to be true. Today we celebrated our 2 year anniversary and I gave him a mushy card. He always says to me “your dog loves me more than you” which feels like a hint because I never say nice things to him. So in my anniversary card to him today I wrote “Next time you tell me that the dog loves you more than I do, note to self, you’re wrong, I do.”, and when he read it he was so happy and kept saying “aw that last part is so sweet, you’re the best” but he never said “I love you too” or anything, but he just kept saying how much he liked the card after. He does spoil me and treat me so well, I know he does love me but why can’t he say it to me? It does leave me doubting that he does

I don't like to say "I love you" either. I prefer to show it with gestures, actions, choices. If saying the words "I love you" is so easy, that literally anybody can say it to any person, what value do they really have?

To give an example, he liked the card not because you said you loved him, but because you remembered a small detail of something that only makes sense to your relationship. You could say to anybody "I love you" but the detail of your dog makes it much more personal and true to your relationship. It was the gesture, and not the words, that mattered.

But, if hearing the words "I love you" is important to you, if it makes you feel better, you should talk to him about it. It's been two years. If he doesn't love you but now he never will.

Exactly. I prefer guy who shows actions. Rather than words. His actions will melt my heart so much.

Weird, a girl I just started talking to on a dating site, asked for my number and has been texting me for a week now. She already said "I love you". She still barely knows me, and I am not even that lovable of a person.

I am sorry to say, but I don't think he really does love you. Cares for you, yes. Likes you, indeed. Is attracted to you, sure. But he isn't in love with you. It's not that hard to say, especially to someone you truly care about and have been dating for two years. Considering if a random girl I only just met could say it to me after a week, and I am a dork

Action is much much more important.
Action will eventually truly melt my heart.

But ur love language is different than his.
U can communicate.

But again, that is not that important for me. Actions matter the most.

Because he said it once, and you never responded. Think if it was reversed. Yes he was very happy you said it in that card, now you need to tell him in person, then maybe he'll say it again.

Or, if you're not sure he meant it because he was drunk, ask him sober. Don't just ask if he remembered saying it, but did he mean it. And yes, likely he did. Everyone is different, but I'd never tell a girl I loved her if I didn't. Drunk or not. Maybe that's just me though?
