Signs a guy has a secret crush?

there is this guy in my group of male friends who i'm unsure has a crush on me or not. he's awkward and bad at flirting, introverted so harder to read. he came over one time just to be there for me after breaking up with my abusive ex. since then he's been distant but awkward. i hang around this group of guys and when he's there and i speak to him he looks deep into my eyes when he talks to me i have to look away or i get nervous lol he sometimes stumbles on his words or blabs on lol, he doesn't start convos with me directly but he's started to pat my leg during a discussions, playfully started mocking me and slight teasing. He finds me funny apparently.
i'm sure it can't be easy getting into girls when the guys will most likely tease him.
so, what are the signs a guy has a secret crush or what do you do when you have a secret crush?

It sounds as if he does like you and does care about you. That's better than a crush. Just enjoy his company and make sure he knows that you enjoy his. With enough knowledge that you like him, IF he's interested he'll let you know directly

Some guys are just nervous talking to girls. I think the best way to tell is if he specifically acts nervous like that with you and has no problem with other girls, that could be a good sign.
