  To update my answer to yours. I could say the same thing, guys do it because we want compliments because surprise, surprise... were all humans. I know plenty of girls I have come across online or in person where they want to manipulate and lie just to get validation and attention because their absent boyfriend is an ass or her father is a jerk. I am not defensive I am stating the truth. If I gave a shit about a girl stroking my ego, then why would I still be a virgin today even though I could have had sex with different girls in my 20s? Why is it that I am not on social media? Why is it that I don't often have friends who are girls? Because I don't need my "ego" to be "stroked" and I think I do have an ego but it's not an ego of an alpha male, different egos are associated to different people.
