Went on a date. He rejected me and now he's acting weird?

So this guy that's observed me in class for a while confessed that he liked me and asked me out.
We went on the date and when he dropped me off home he kissed me.

I was shocked as it was my first kiss and it kind of showed on my face but I just got out of the car.

Two days later he says he's too busy to date but enjoyed it. I told him that's fine and that we can just be friends.

Now when I bump into him he avoids eye contact with me and when there's someone with me, he'll pretend I'm not there and pay all his attention on them.

I don't know why he's acting like this. I sent him a message to show that we can talk. He responded nicely but ended the conversation

From experience as the one who has done the "dropping" per say, I just observed myself and realized after 2 dates that although the dude was super lovely and such a nice guy that I just didn't want a relationship. But here's the thing, if I did want one, I would have happily entered into one with the guy. So it was really me, and not at all him.

That could definitely be the case with this guy, except men can sometimes be immature depending on the age, so perhaps he thinks that even talking to you at times means that he's interested again when in reality there is nothing wrong with being friendly.

To close it off, I think he doesn't know what he wants and although he's attracted to you, his life is probably complicated and his mindset is complex. Might just be scared of being in a relationship easy & simple, I wouldn't take it personally though, his loss! Not yours :)

we're in our early 20s. You might be right about him thinking talking to me might give me the impression that he's interested because i caught him glancing in my direction twice and he quickly looked away with a facial expression to say I'm the weird one
