Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I can't speak personally but I honestly get the feeling that drag queens respect women tremendously and that they aren't making fun of women, but rather they are making fun of gender roles in society.

So, that having been said, I would like to ask: Why are some women so quick to insist that literally everything in the world is an example of misogyny? You know that misogyny is the hatred of women, right? Not "haha I'm making fun of women" but actual full-on hatred and contempt of women. Like thinking women don't even deserve to be considered human.

Is that really how you think drag queens are?

I don't even think it's hidden. They are openly declaring what an "ideal woman" looks like. They are openly declaring the "ideal way" that a woman ought to be treated. And it is, unsurprisingly, the ideals of a deeply misogynist male - it is the ideals of a guy who got the mistaken impression that women with large boobs all get to be pampered princesses who are swept up by some rich guy and never have to work again and said "I want in on that shit."

Of course, I realize I'm generalizing (based on every single drag queen/transsexual I've met), but even if that's not true in general, it would head off a lot of otherwise-inevitable criticism if they found some way to police themselves to call such parasites out before the rest of us catch on.

So as a guy who had done drag before, a lot of it is just for the performance. Like how in theatre you see people in coatumes you would never see in public, in a sense its like that. But these personas that these men create is a whole nother part of their life which is used as a way to express their feminine emotions that they feel ashamed to express as a dude.

I had a conversation with a friend about this and was trying to explain how drag shows are to women how the black and white minstrel shows are to blacks. Her argument was they were just living their lives the way that was true to them. But drag queens are not transvestites they are performers.
