I have a male colleague (he is 48 I am 26). We enjoy each others company. A woman at our workplace said to him, while I was standing next to him: "You two really have found each other. You seem to very protective of her."
He replied "I really care for her."

He often "jokes" about my boyfriend, saying he doesn't look manly enough etc... He has also told me he can't have a real talk with anyone at the company but me.
Also when he gave me a ride home once, he wanted me to come inside at his house seeing his place and when I said hello to one of his sons he said "this is your new mom."

What does he want? What does he feel?

You are talking about a 26 TWENTY SIX year age difference. He probably finds you attractive, but knows it would never work.
