What does it mean when an ex still teases me? Can we really be just friends?

We had broken up about 9 months ago and during that time I was overseas. After returning, I got in contact with him as i kinda wanted to get back together but he expressed that he has moved on but we could be friends.

We are now friends (share a few classes) and even call sometimes. But recently he’s been teasing me (giving me nicknames) and joking about one day I should do this or that when I meet a cute boy etc. Is this just because he’s my ex so he’d joke about it, or that he still cares/wants something more?

If your opinion is that ex’s can’t be “just friends”, what do you really mean by that? As in there will still be feelings? Or physical attraction will make ex’s break friendship boundaries?

For the first question, I think it's hard to know. It probably means he still likes you, but that could be as a friend or could be that he's thinking about more. I don't think that alone is enough to know what his thinking is.

For the second question, I think it's definitely possible to be just friends. I've stayed friends with all of my exes for at least some period of time. In one case it was more than 10 years before we lost touch with each other. During that time we did things together periodically and she even attended my wedding and went on a week-long trip with my ex-wife and sister-in-law and me. (Yes, my ex-wife knew about the prior relationship but was confident that it was over and was just a friendship.)

I'm connected on social media now with a couple of my exes long after we broke up. We don't do anything together in person (though if we're ever in the same area at the same time we'd probably meet up) but do stay in touch somewhat electronically. My girlfriend is also connected on social media with some of her exes and we've gone to dinner with a couple of them.

So it certainly is possible to remain friends and to do things together as friends after breaking up.

To answer the question about what the teasing means, I think a lot more information about how he's acting overall is needed.
