Ex keeps asking about me to our mutual friend?

So, broke up with him last October. I had to, because the relationship was extremely unhealthy and i was treated like garbage the whole time. Tried to play it cool for a couple of months and then i cut him off completely from every social, stopped talking to him. He always bragged about his conquests and how many women he had, and that he moves on really fast after a breakup. Turns out, he still asks about me to a mutual friend, he asks him about my love life and how im doing in general. He even tried to initiate a conversation with my best male friend, and he doesn't even know him. Nothing related to me, but it felt really weird. Us and my bff dont even live in the same area, but he knows for sure we talk daily.

Why is he doing this? Is his ego that hurt? Why does he say he’s soooo over to his friends and then tries asking about me in secret?

Men typically take longer to feel the “hurt” over breakups. He is likely going through it right now, where he was very confident at first and it was no big deal in the beginning, and he’s trying to keep that happy face in front of his friends, but he deep down misses you and still isn’t over you.
That’s most likely the reason why he’s asking about you.

He likely isn't over you. He wants to make sure you aren't doing "better" than he is in the dating world is what it sounds like to me. Why not just ignore him? He is an ex after all.

Because i'm feeling confused. I never expected this, i thought he really hated me tbh, because i cut him out coldly. He treated me badly, but i feel bad too about the fact he kinda still cares about what i do and what i don't do.

I understand. Breakups are never an easy thing to deal with. What you did though was right if he treated you badly. The mistake you can make is letting him wedge his way back into your life. I think that is what is happening. You need to stay strong and remember he wasn't right for you.

Probably to find out if he still has a way into your life. Your best friend would most likely tell you this, he knows it. Don't fall for his foolish games.
