Best way to find out is to stop texting him first. Relationships of all kinds (even dating) are a two way road, with both people doing their part. He needs to initiate some of these conversations too, and if he doesn’t, then you’ll know where you truly stand.

I have a couple of female friends who initiate messages to me 90% of the time, including early morning and late at night, and they aren't interested romantically.

Yes, sometimes these things are complicated.

For example, there is a girl I really liked, who initiated messages to me a lot, but I rarely ever initiate messages to her, maybe only once or twice.
Why? Because I learned she has a boyfriend, yet she never told me this directly.
