Do guys purposely give off mixed signals?

The guy i like acts like he likes me a lot. He constantly stares at me and likes to playfully tease me. We have been intimate.

However, he said he doesn't want a relationship because he just got out of one. I understand that but why make me feel so special by coming over to talk to me and compliment me all the time if he doesn't want a relationship? It feels like were dating but we aren't. Its really confusing me. He will ask me to hang out and then never get back to me for example. Is he acting this way on purpose or is he unsure of his feelings?

there's a few things I think it might be. 1) He's I unsure of his feelings a bit. 2) he wants a friends with benefits but not to date. 3) he wants to date but doesn't like the label of it.

Ultimately, most guys don't send mixed signals and play games like that
