I found the exact opposite. Under my first boss, a man, the women engineers, technicians and technologists, more or less got a free ride. When he retired, his successor was a woman and she cleaned house! She tossed a couple of women who everyone on staff knew were useless. The old story is that women cannot work for other women. I'm inclined to agree.

It can be a bit awkward when a boss shows percieved flirtation to the opposite sex. I admit when one of the male bosses calls me sweety or a pet name, I feel taken care of. Lol. I like it! I feel like I am appreciated. It could be flirting I don't know but in this case I just felt protected and valued. XD

@Zmuetbflsi I can understand that. From your standpoint it's a case of "Okay, my (male) boss likes me", but your male collogues look at it differently. Your male boss calling you sweetie, or by some other pet name means you're being favored. Engineering is a profession where men and women are on a totally level playing field, but their supervisor has the power to alter that. When we had a woman supervisor, the ladies on staff found life much different. Regardless, I enjoyed reading your comments. This is what the site should be about.

I suppose you have a point that either way it might be favoritism. Do you men feel favored if the boss flirts with you even just subtly like making teasing comments about your attractiveness? Or do you just feel like how I felt?

@Zmuetbflsi Our female supervisor she showed no favorites. I received the same reviews that I received from my male supervisor, although I suspect that some of the women on staff scored much lower (I have no means to verify that). Let me say that my woman boss was an outstanding engineer and an excellent manager. I respected her more than my first (male) boss. He was a nice man, but he clearly favored the ladies who were on his staff. I'm relating events from when I was a young man and right out of the university. As I grew older I understood a lot more about the workplace, especially with men and women working together. Yes, it can be done, but it is up to the supervisor to keep the staff in line. I think that women are better at doing this than men. M best supervisors were always women. All of them were outstanding engineers, and all of them were skilled at managing the staff. I enjoy intelligent conversation (with men or women) thank you..

in the next 20 years we will see a rash of sexual harassment allegations from men about their female superiors. Women have to be idiots because they act like they are impervious to the #metoo movement. Women still benefit from many double standards and this is one that they really enjoy. It will be satisfying to watch all of these mindless females lose their jobs
