Why do some men at workplaces seem to feel obligated to flirt with female coworkers?

I feel sorry for them. I get the feeling certain young men at workplaces actually feel obligated to flirt with girls at work. I don't know if I am just interpreting them wrong but they seem to flirt with girls but at the same time I get the sense that they also aren't actually wanting to flirt or aren't actually interested in the girls. It almost feels forced but i also know its not part of the job description to flirt with the opposite sex. I also know some guys think it makes the time go faster. But I don't know. It just feels awkward to me to witness it and yes its happened to me before by a guy.

I think it goes both ways to be honest. I work in IT which is mostly male oriented. Those few girls - particularly in their 20's - flirt a helluva lot in general. Once place had a call centre - mostly females there and you see there was a comp as to how many guys they could get to come down to chat with them at lunch.

If you are working, in my book, you should concentrate every minute on work.

I have a new job and these idiots dont wanna work they wanna flirt or waste time veing lazy sons of bitches. Just like my last job. Its gross when men are at work and have no pride in their work and act like this.

I don't respect people who don't work at work and socially interact instead. Then they are surprised and upset when they are picked for redundancies. If it is project work then you have to concentrate the whole time.

You need to slough them off. Maybe develop some key phrases 'have you got any work to do? I have.' stuff like that. Don't worry if they are offended - they deserve to be.

Yeah I have seen. When I was managing a team I DID care... a lot. But realistically. One guy didn't like making mistakes so he was slow but his work was exact. That was ok. In fact I came to value him more than another guy who was very smart very quick but could make howlers occasionally.

Also we have a lot of downtime since we are waiting for customers to come in. Not sure what to do in those times when men want to get too personal

I never feel obligated to flirt or even want to flirt. I do enjoy working with female colleagues and developing a friendship if possible.

I met my wife this way. it ended up well for both of us. but I never flirted with anyone else. I usually avoid contact at all costs these days unless there is a meeting. even then most people are just quiet unless asked a question. maybe it's my company but I feel more bad about people working a job they don't like than flirting. there are worst things than flirting.
