Why is his male friends jokes acceptable but not mine?

The way this guy’s other friends joke with him is similar to how I joke with him. I don’t deliberately try to hurt his feelings, if anything my jokes are more light than harsh. But I don’t get how his male friends and even other people who he don’t associate with get away with joking and he still talks to them and play video games with them.

Me on the other hand gets ignored, he doesn’t sit near me anymore, and he doesn’t reply to my texts anymore and just seems aggravated when I’m around him sometimes. Now his friends told me he likes me but when I try being friendly he is friendly back but not like he used to. It’s like he doesn’t wanna give me a chance but will give his friends and other people a chance.

If you're meant to be a safe place where you go to be vulnerable then those joke won't work. Even my best guy friends can recognize when we're all trying to have fun and shit on each other and when we're not. Like if we're joking around we can say "haha well XXX will never get a mate" but if we're eating and chatting about life and someone brings up a relationship and someone goes "too bad XXX will be single forever" it kinda ruins the vibe. Most the time he's going to look for you to be emotionally supportive so if he's expecting that and then gets his insecurities exposed then it sucks. It's impossible to read his mind and know what he wants but that's part of the learning process of a relationship

He may have a different type of relationship with his friends than he has with you. Most guys roast eachother for fun and that’s how guys bond. Sometimes guys can be pretty ruthless with their jokes especially if they are younger guys like in their 20’s or 30’s.

but the relationship he has with you is different than the one he has with his buddies. He may even know his guy friends longer so he lets their jokes slide but since he doesn’t know you well enough, he might not know where you are coming from with the jokes.

He’s known me for a year and a half, his other friends I think he’s known for 2 years.

I think it’s more of a comfort level things with his guy friends and when he is with you he can’t tell what place your jokes are coming from especially since your relationship with him is more intimate and he turns to you when he is vulnerable

What about the people who aren’t his friends? They would tease him too but he seems to not be phased by it unless it’s me

I think he expects you to be kind and caring towards him, not belittling like his friends are
