My situationship said he wants to stay friends so I asked “you aren’t like me anymore?” he said “I like you a lot but I don’t want to hurt you”. so i said “Im happy with you but don’t use me as a excuse, even i’m happy you would rather to stay friends right?” “yeah i would rather to stay friends” I really can’t understand, can someone help me what to do after? Why he did this?

When guys say they don’t want to hurt u it means they do not see u in their future. He knows eventually if y’all keep going at it u will catch feelings and want to be in a relationship. He already doesn’t see u as his girlfriend/ wife so he rather end things now before it’s too late
