Guy's Behavior

I can't get over a guy who is being hot and cold since the beginning. I am so hooked. We are not even dating. He says he has commitment issues. HELP?

We were childhood friends. He told me last year that he had a huge crush on me back then in our teens. Which led me to have a crush on him. We started talking few months back. He said at that time, that he had commitment issues but will see where things go. After two months he started ghosting me. In those 2 months also he showed hot and cold behaviour but he used to say to me that he is like that naturally with everyone so I should not mind. I adjusted. But after 2 months the ghosting started. When I confronted he was like I don't think anything can happen between us and it is better to remain just friends. I was hurt. He continued sending memes and all.. Few days back we met and he told me he is attracted to me but again that all old story about commitment issues. We started talking again. But now again he hasn't messaged for 3-4 days. What should I do? He continues his hot and cold behaviour and it is messing so badly with my head. I know he will come back and message me. But I don't want him to mess up my mental health.
He never had a serious relationship. And he is not even a fuckboy/player. But I don't know what is wrong with him. Please help..

I told the guy that I love him but I know nothing can happen between us so I am going to stop texting or calling you. And told him not to message me and message only if he wants something real and when he is over his issues.
He left me on seen. He didnot even reply.
It hurts so badly. Why didn't he even bother to say take care to the least. He wasn't like this
