I’m confused on this situation and need help?

So I accidentally hurt my guy friend’s feelings a couple months ago and I apologized but he’s been acting differently. But before that, his friends would tease him for liking me and they told me he did.

Awhile ago we got back on good terms and recently I gained some confidence and decided to asked him out but he told me he didn’t like me in that way which I was very confused about because he even mentioned us being together before.

And the other day I had walked past him and one of his friends said “Are you smiling because you just saw (My name)?” and he immediately said “What?” like he was scared he got caught or something. Like why is he acting like this?

I read your reply to another commenter and I agree he sounds soft but if he said he doesn't like you like that then I'd stop thinking about it. I've learned that men don't go for what's easy to get. If you act unbothered like you've moved on I'm sure his true feelings will come out even if not verbally. Just pay attention. We have to pay attention to how a man acts not just what they say.

True, cause the way he act sometimes he just seem like he’s embarrassed and don’t want me know his feelings for me. He then continues to stare at me when I’m around which is also confusing

Can you give more context to the story? Exactly how did you hurt his feelings?

I called him out his name cause I was frustrated and he said “If you think of me that way then we can’t be together”. When we got back on good terms I could tell he was still hurt but wouldn’t admit it and told me he was fine. He didn’t want me to know how bad I made him feel but I didn’t know until his friend told me

If that’s all that it was then he’s overreacting. He sounds a bit soft/sensitive. He needs to toughen up he’s going to have to have tougher skin than that. If something that little gets on that upset then you’re always going to be walking on egg shells go home with him. He’s going to have to experience and deal with things a lot worse than that in life trust me.
