Guy's Behavior

My guy friend says he feels awkward after we sexted and told him I wasn't joking?

(I call him my guy friend because we aren't dating nor friends with benefits)

For context, we've been sexting these past few months and flirtatiously joke around a lot. Sometimes it gets really heated and we both tell each other that we're joking (which I'm not). I've been kind of sick of saying that I'm joking and pretending that what I'm saying is a joke. So today when he asked if I was joking or not, I said that I wasn't. He said he had to leave to eat and an hour later he texted me:

"I feel awkward from the interaction earlier, and saying that everything I said was completely a joke and none of it was serious :)"

I don't really know what to do, I've already replied to him so that's out of the way, I'm assuming he really is joking?
