Best way to approach a guy I’m interested in when I’m not confident to?

So there is this guy and we have literally been looking at each other for just above 4 years. We did have little conversations and stuff before, just cause I was good friends with one of his friends. But the past year ( in year 12 by the way) we don’t talk at all and we have one lesson together. We still make eye contact and it’s so awkward with him. When I stand in line and he’s behind or in front of me he starts acting weird by like moving in front of me if as he’s trying to see my face? I mean I want to look at him too but don’t have that kind of courage to look when he’s in front of me, so I just stare when he’s walking in front of me or something. It’s freaking weird, but I guess I kind of feel something now… I just need some help on how I can try and make a first move as I’m quite shy as well, I want to see if there is actually anything there. If not I guess I will try move on.
