Why would my boyfriend ask my to be pessimistic?

I am a positive person and last night when I was on the phone with the boyfriend he asked me to be pessimistic he wanted to he both sides of me the good and bad. I am honestly positive mentally too so I tried hard to be pessimistic. He thanks me but I don’t understand why? What’s the logic behind it

I have the opposite problem. I’m surrounded by pessimists and it’s really hard to stay positive. I guess too much of anything isn’t exactly good.. but asking someone to be pessimistic is a bit odd to me.
