Men act outraged and offended when I express interest in them?

This has been happening to me since I was a child, and I don’t know whether it is because of my looks or because of my personality that men take the fact I like them as an offense, or at least that’s how I perceive it.
When I was 8, I was in the “clique” of the “girly girls” in my class (I know it’s ridiculous) and one day we decided we were all gonna get boyfriends. So each girl walked up to a classmate and asked him to be her boyfriend for the day. I was super shy and approached a boy I liked, he knew what I was going to ask him because the whole class knew, and he walked away angrily without saying anything as I sat next to him. This has pretty much been the reaction every boy had afterwards. Lately I met this boy at a party and he was flirty and kind with me, so I took courage and asked him to go have a drink because I was curious to hear more about things he had told me, he never replied to my message (which was friendly, I didn’t talk about dating or anything just going for a drink and chatting…and I also mentioned it was my birthday the day after and he didn’t even say happy birthday…) and he removed me from social media , where he had added me, after I asked him. But this is just the last example of a very long list… I don’t get it, even if I were the most repulsive monster in the universe, which I am now starting to think I am, they could let me down kindly not like this
