Maybe it's because he is afraid to make a mistake like what if he shattered while talking to you and he will get embarrassed. I know most of us girls sometimes are shattering when talking to our crush but maybe guys too😅 so that's the reason why he wants his friends to talk to you on behalf of him, I think that's the right word to say I'm sorry English is not my first Language 😅so I don't know if my grammar is right.

Though I probably should not say this it's because fear of rejection.
If there's someone I don't give a s*** about I'll go right up and talk to them but when there's someone I have my heart set on I wait for them to start the conversation often.
