I feel like it was a nice rejection, falling in line with cop-out responses such as “you’re too good for me”. If he were serious about that sober conversation then he would’ve set it up already, but I think he’s ultimately already given you his answer. As for his comments about you being his Angel and stuff, this sounds like regular flirtatious banter that happens once drinks get involved, unfortunately.
