A number of causes could lead a person to lose interest in another
1. If you continuously gave him the cold shoulder, he finally give up.
2. If you look as if you are playing in a different league.
3. He may have found facts about you he did not know beforehand.
4. He could have a girlfriend that gave him a hard time after he talked about you.
5. You are perceived as a person that could be a threat.
6. His attention and interest has shifted.
There are so many different possibilities that you will not know unless you ask him for his reasons to avoid him. You seem to be seeking this person's attention but don't do anything to prevent him losing interest in you.
Its possible he thought you weren't into him, or he misread you.
