Why doesn’t he look me in the eyes anymore?

My ex guy best friend and I had a big fight over two years ago and stopped being friends. We have the same friends so we see each other often and sometimes talk. However, he doesn’t look at me while talking anymore. If we do make eye contact he looks away yet he’ll keep eye contact with anyone even people he doesn’t like, basically everyone except me. I feel disrespected that he doesn’t since it’s been over two years. He’s a confident egotistic person who’s not afraid of anything so why can he not look me in the eyes?

I'll be guessing here but he might be hurt still, or if you really know him that well, you would be able to see it in his eyes, that's why he looks away.

And since you do not mention being sad, hurt or worried... just offended, maybe he can feel or think you're just careless about what you two had and so he could be offended too and just looks away.

Yeah we knew each other really well, we were best friends. He also knows how much the break up hurt me. It seemed to me he moved on pretty quickly after and yet he chooses to act like this. I don’t care anymore because it’s been so long so why is he still like this?

It could be guilt as well, I've personally never broke up with friends or significant others, so I really don't know how I would feel after two years if that happened, but I am guessing that it would bother me a lot... I don't think I could reach that point in which "I would just not care"

But I am sure of one thing, he's still feeling bad about this, either because he hurt you, you hurt him, or both did it to each other, he won't get over it any time soon, I would not be.

But you also mentioned that he's got an ego, and if that one is a misplaced kind of ego, then there will be grudges and resentment for a long long time.

he is angry at you and doesn't want to look at you. he probably avoids talking to you as much as he can but when he does have to talk he doesn't want to look at you. You must have really fucked up in his eyes. I reserve this kind of treatment to those who I really despise.

I didn’t do anything at all, in fact he is the one who dropped me out of the blue so wouldn’t I be the one to act this way? Also it’s been over two years its just petty at this point to act like this. If he didn’t care about me he would’ve moved on I feel like. I don’t understand why he can’t just look at me.

I know who he hates and he still looks at them in the eyes and talks to them. It’s literally just me.

I think he feels awkward, and if it weren’t for the same friend group thing, I wouldn’t want talk to you. It’s like an obligation, but it only makes things more awkward. I really don’t mean that in the wrong way, but at the same time, you gotta read the room with this one.

He sometimes inserts himself into a convo he isn’t in. Like if I ask my friend a question he’ll answer instead, so I know he does it willingly.

I feel like it’s him trying to be involved, because you share the friend group and as not to make it awkward. Imagine what hell he’d get from at least someone in the group for flat out ignoring you or not even trying. This is truly just an outside, unbiased opinion given the info you provided. Honestly though, you could have one of those “clear the air” talks with him, about water being under the brindle and all that.
