Some people don't like to be called cute. They like to be called hot, sexy etc They hate the term. Maybe a bad memory association with that term. As I cannot personally say, he may be annoyed by it and now by you. Or he isn't that interested chatting with you. So move on sis, get a guy who doesn't get offended by words and isn't a pussy.
