Why do some men try to neg hot girls?

I’ve got a friend who’s a model, and I’ve seen countless men try to neg her calling her average, but later we find out they actually fancy her because they try to ask her out. Wtf is this negging nonsense? Why do men neg women, especially pretty women?

Idea is if women is hot and she knows it, then her ego is inflated pretty nicely and coming from angle of complimemt is gonna be weak and pathetic, so neg can show that he doesn't put her on pedalstal and his not gonna run around like little puppy dog for her.
But i bet most or those guys fail to bring decent neg and just stupidly insult her or something wich actually then shows low IQ on guys side, thus decreasing his own value and chances. Just dum idiots at that point.

In most cases they are "lower" league then she is and by knowing that they are insecure to approach her fully, so they are trying to talk shit about her so mentally she is weaker and she would start to doubt in herself. Basically they are trying to lower her value to their lvl.

I’m a woman who’s been negged more times than I can count. The guy in question will say something along the lines of “if you just lost 5 pounds” “if you were just more confident” and so on. Had it happen to me a lot of different times over the years. One particular time stood out to me the most. I went to a Halloween party a few years back. I was going with a girlfriend from work, but I didn’t know anyone else at the party. We drove over 30 minutes to get there. So by the time we did get to the house, I had to pee really bad. As soon as I got inside, I asked where the bathroom was. When I came out from the bathroom, one of the hosts of the house (it was a shared home by 3-4 college roommates) immediately started talking down to me in front of everyone about how I didn’t have any manners for not shaking his hand and thanking him for allowing me at his house before using his bathroom…. It was a Halloween party and I invited a really hot girlfriend of mine to come and he acted really offended about me inviting her and again put me down in front of the whole party, even though I had previously obtained permission through my friend asking another host beforehand. In general he was really rude and singled me out several times, in front of the entire party (10-20 people) and it made me feel really awkward and weird. I eventually ended up leaving because it threw me off so bad and I also didn’t want to get wasted. The kicker: he freaking asked my friend for my number later that week. I was beyond disgusted.

I have a feeling that when men do this they see themselves as “not in your league” typically (and they’re usually right, not my type). I’m open to giving any guy a chance though, if I see he’s smart, competent and can make me laugh. But come on. Being rude and putting down, only to think I would grovel for your attention? How about no (Austin Powers).
