Why would a guy deliberately avoid physical contact with me?

So I've had a crush on this guy at my church for a while now. Our families know each other, but the two of us have never talked. All of a sudden, a few months ago, I noticed he was clearly avoiding physical contact with me, especially eye contact. For instance, if our families were chatting and I walked up to join the conversation, he would immediately walk away with his brother. Or if I walked away from the conversation, he would walk up. What was really strange was one time when we were setting up for an event and I asked him to push a table for me. He did it immediately but did not speak a word to me, even when I said thank you. It was like I was invisible.
I was completely convinced he wasn't interested, but about two months ago I randomly got a bunch of Instagram likes from him on my old posts. I thought this meant he was interested, but he keeps avoiding me like I'm the plague. He does try to make eye contact every once in a while, but he quickly looks away. Then whenever he has to walk near me he keeps his head down on his phone and gets away as fast as possible. Other people say he's just intimidated, but I really can't tell. Should I try to approach and say something, or do I ignore him?

I think he is just very shy or insecure and afraid of rejection. If you approach him to say something I think it may backfire, because he is so self-conscious of his feelings. Maybe send him a note or some other indirect way to express your interest in him. If he responds then suggest a date for coffee. If not, then ignore him. But it sounds to me like he likes you a lot but is just afraid.

What do you recommend I do to show my interest? I only see him once a week and he gets away so fast.

Make excuses to talk to him as much as possible. You can stare at each other into eternity and still have nothing.

You should definitely talk to him, he might be shy or not know what to say to you when you’re around.

You should definitely try talking to him more if you like him, He is probably just really nervous around you because he likes you and he probably most likely thinks you don't really like him so you should let him know you like him somehow.

Ask him for help to start off with, But don't make it seem like your lazy.
You can ask him something about him like how long has he been going to church or something like that.
