Apparently he's the sexy show-off type already. Makes sense that he's not into women who are not like that.
What makes sense though, is that neither him or you seem to be the most secure-in-themselves people. He needs muscles to get validation and you don't even feel validated when a hot dude shows interest in you. :D

So, no, it's not a prank. But it's OK to have reservations or to want to take it slow, if you're not the type to trust easily. It's all down to communicating what you're comfortable with.
If the feeling of "Oh no, it's just a prank!" is too much, just tell him. Saying things out loud a) lets others know how you feel and b) shows you how ridiculous some of the things are that go on in your own head. It's usually really freeing. But try to deal with these things in your own head first. I assume that's more inside your comfort zone. :D

In the end it's pretty simple. He saw you. He liked what he saw. He approached you.
The only thing you should worry about at first is whether or not you liked what you saw as well.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Way back in the 80's when I was in high school, I had a huge crush on this girl I thought was gorgeous. Every friend and other guys I knew thought she was ugly. Not to me though. She was the first woman I ever asked out. She turned me down because I was overweight. It actually gave me the push to lose about 60 lbs.
I got my revenge though. I ended up dropping about 100lbs. Enough that I could wear those half shirts and short pants. I came across her in the mall and right away she was "hey, we should get together." I just blew her off. She showed me that the bullshiz reason she turned me down was complete Fonking bullshiz. So she lost out.

I’m very concerned because it seems like he’s probably a player or something for coming up to me like that out of the blue. I actually was so caught off guard I said I had to go.

I haven’t been seeing him around as much, and I’m not sure if it’s because of me or not tbh. Like soon after that I started seeing him less and less and he was a regular who came same time as me. I don't know

What if it took him weeks to muster up the courage and you just didn't notice it?
What it he didn't approach you at all? He wouldn't look like anything then, player or otherwise, because you probably wouldn't have even known he exists.
