Should I let the days glide on by or should I try once more also am I in the wrong or am I being gaslight?

So last week we had had a conversation about our lack of communication in the past month or so.
His perspective :
  • I rarely initiate contact or reach out to him
  • I shouldn't doubt how he feels about me as he's made it very clear. So I shouldn't feel like I'm being a nuisance if double/triple text him
  • he's always been a good texter/ initiator of things so I should start taking up that role.
  • If I don't text why should he?
  • Even if his replies are late he's still replying & that's what's important given his current situation.
My defense:
The last few months I've gotten better at initiating contact. Before I'd be a horrible texter because I used to not have my phone during work & he too has a crazy schedule so I'd leave things up to him. But id always reply to him or text him the first chance I could.

BUT IN more RECENT times, I always text him. I even triple text him. Yet he takes hours, or even a day or two to respond. So after a few instances like that I was annoyed & felt like he didn't care to hear from me so I stopped texting him all together. When he brought it up I told him I was just reciprocating his same energy & then we got into that whole conversation. I asked him like if you're upset or feel like drifting apart lmk let's talk & he reassured me & just basically said all the things mentioned above.
POST - CONVERSATION: things were fine & then a few days later same shit.
The last text I sent was 4 days ago & still no reply. Im not going to double text him because I don't see the point in doing so & plus no matter how busy he used to be he'd always at least shoot me a quick text. So I honestly am not convinced by his points.
Should I let the days glide on by or should I try once more also am I in the wrong or am I being gaslight?
