Is it unattractive for a guy to not say much at all?

I'm a very quiet guy I talk more when I know the person well or its a 1 on 1 private conversation but I still don't say a lot.

I have some female friends that are single but I'm shy and quiet and don't say much more than hello and a sentence or two but I will listen and answer all questions.

It depends, I would say it's more on the unattractive side but not necessarily. In general, majority of girls want to feel guided, and would message you with empty pokes just to make you fill their boredom (and actual emptiness) with conversations and topics.
In a relationship, lack of words can be felt like lack of interest, or a dull relationship anyway.
There is still this myth of the "mysterious" guy who is serious and silent but this doesn't work if it means "introvert", it works only if it means:"this guy has an active life and can't give crap about me because he doesn't see me as so valuable, so I have to win his attention".
However, on your side, if you're a good listener, make it a value and ask -them- questions, don't wait for them to ask you because this would mean you expect them to lead the situation, and they very likely are expecting the same from you. Also, asking questions makes them talk and girls like to be listened and considered, valued (as long as you don't try to be their reliable supportive best friend, because you might get friendzoned as such). Being too quiet and also expecting them to lead the conversation is not attractive because it shows how you can't give anything in the situation, or anything back to match what you expect them to put, staying completely passive to that. What would it be their advantage? Mh...
And in general being more expressive and "active", is charming for anyone (even friends, colleagues etc).
So in conclusion: it doesn't mean you have no chances, but that could definitely be higher with some effort. For sure asking them questions when you don't know what to say is a good "workaround" and makes it feel like if you're interested and pushes them to open and be listened. Some girls want to talk really a lot.
Another thing you could do to improve conversations is to select girls who have your same hobbies and interests so you have definitely something to conversate about.

I have a simillar friend like you. As a girl I personally find it attractive for the guy to listen to me as it means that he is interested in what I am saying. However if you do it all the time at some point the girl will be bored as she is tellling you her issue for example and waits for you to tell her your opinion. I think it's good that love yourself the way you are and don't pretend to be someone else, still it's not bad sometimes to do new things that are not in your character. In your case expressing your opinion to your female friends.
