It's been six weeks; he might simply have forgotten. If you're not already talking to him regularly, I'd drop a line asking how his leg is. If he says "better, thanks!", then ask "Hey, did you still want to go out for coffee?", skipping straight to that if you ARE in regular communication (it'd seem kind of unnatural otherwise). It's far more likely that it just slipped his mind with time and recovery than that he's trying something nefarious.
