How come people think that it is creepy and gay for a guy to dress up as a woman for a role when its all part of acting?

So I'm in the process of creating an very cool action thriller movie and its about an assassin who's skilled in disguises aka dressing up as a female. It's part of the role where the character would dress up as a woman and seduce and lure men in order to kill them. Its all inspired by two popular movies, the belgian film " the memory of a killer " and the American remake with liam neeson. I'm getting a lot of back lash from my relatives and my friends and they all say that I'm gay and creepy for doing this. This is just part of acting and I'm not gay. Why is it gay to dress as a woman for an acting role?
