Why would an older man volunteer to be a “mentor” or “coach” for me?

Anonymous
Yesterday he sent flowers to my job and they were huge. The note on the lm read “the sky is the limit for what you can accomplish”. We started talking on Facebook and things started off slightly flirty (emphasis on “slightly” because we were both subtle). Ever since our first conversation he will call me to talk or I will call him and each conversation I will discover more and more that this man is probably rich. But I listen very carefully to his success story and try to learn from him. Last night I called to thank him for sending me the flowers and we talked for 2 hours. During the conversation he told me that he just wanted to make my day and that he saw potential in me. I told him that if things didn’t progress over time into something romantic (if that was his intention) could we remain friends because I valued his opinions. And he told me that he genuinely wanted to be like a mentor or a coach to me. Why?
also I’m 24 and he is 32
