Because men are called to pursue power, and the modern world offers us no way to do it, so some of the dumber guys do stupid stuff like that to feel powerful. Like "I'm imposing conditions on you that you can't change, I'm in charge of my little mountain of dung and I'm going to make sure everybody knows it."
