Is this a sign this guy doesn’t want to reject me because I’m his friend but doesn’t see me romantically as in dating?

There’s this guy who found out I liked him by other people. He did come to me and tell me that if we want to make it a thing we could. He asked for my number but hasn’t texted me yet which is odd. I’m thinking why ask if you aren’t going to text me or don’t like me in that way. (he only sent a text to let me know it was him) He could just be honest rather than trying to make it be more when he clearly don’t care like that. Also he’s going on a vacation (he hasn’t went yet) and he said he is going to bring me back a souvenir.(and even asked what I wanted back) I told him that he doesn’t have.(because let’s be honest we’re technically still only friends) But he keeps saying he’s going to bring back one regardless. Another thing is he already talked about how if we can’t date at work then we can make it work somehow. I don’t understand him at all. But he has said he is inexperienced in real relationships and does have mental disabilities. This just happened a few days ago. I’m just curious to here other’s opinions on this.

Well you can analyze this to death and never know unless you talk to him about it. As far as texting you, maybe just doesn't know what to say and isn't much of a talker? On that, I'd also try and find out more about these "mental disabilities" he has, as that could explain a lot of this. But, if he wasn't interested, he simply would have ignored what the friends told him and NOT given you his number. Would not be bringing you back souvenirs etc. But as far as other questions, you're best to talk to him and ask him. Even directly ask him if he wants to date or not. And don't wait for him to text. You can text and start the conversation. Like I say, he may not know what to say. Plus, who knows what all is going on in his life?

I can only go by what you've typed, and it appears to me as if he is forcing himself to be what you want because he values you as a friend, but he is in conflict because it isn't really what HE wants.

You're welcome. Let me pose a question to you. If he was into you the same way as you are with him, do you think there would be ANY hesitation there? I don't,, which is why I came to that conclusion. I definitely believe though, you mean a great deal to him, maybe even more than you know.

I would say the guy is interested in you but also shy to make the first move, I would suggest to try clearing things out with him and asking him how he really feels.

I don't think it means that. He's probably like most guys and doesn't do texting well. He probably is thinking you are going to be going together and that's why he wants to bring you back a souvenir.
