I guess it would depend on the people and how the relationship ended. A relationship that ended on good terms and remained friends, it might just be someone offering help to someone who needs it...
If it didn't end well, and he's offering this, I'd be really Leary of why he'd offer like maybe it's his way of trying to get you back or at the least make you feel indebted to him...
