My coworker (male) and I are great colleagues and are always friendly towards each other. Our relationship is more of a friends relationship than of a formal one. Last week, we started teasing each other negatively in a fun way. However I felt insulted about one of the jokes so instead of acknowledging that I don’t like to joke in that way, I back fired on him and said a very heavy joke about him acting like a girl. He was completely mad and felt insulted but then brushed it alway and said he understands it was a joke. Afterwards he began the silent treatment with me and has been since two days to the point he even changed his desk. I apologized to him and acknowledged that I have crossed the line with him. I tried my best to remain friendly & positive towards him yet he still refuses to talk to me normally like we always do. What else should I do?

Let it blow over. It’s only been 2 days and I know you’re eager to recover and act normal, but clearly he took offense to what you said and wants space. Don’t beat yourself up too much, because even though like you said you could’ve vocalized the issue when it happened, he’s the one who made the joke that upset you as well. Your response wasn’t unprovoked.

I mean if he said something bad to you first in a joking way he should have expected the same. Considering you didn’t lash out when he said whatever he said to you first lol. I’d say ignore it for now
The silent treatment? Really? What a little bitch...

Leave him alone and let him stew. He will get over it.
