Guy's Behavior

A guy has apologized to me when I called him out on his abusive behaviour but continued to argue about something else right after? Wtf?

For months I was trying to get over the mental abuse I suffered from a guy always being critical of me accusing me of being sexist (I never was by the way) and straight out told me he was annoyed by my very existence. Also the timing was very weird provided he did it a month later after we talked. It was horrible to receive such texts out of blue. I had been working on getting over this for about 2 months but I realized I needed some kind of closure. So I sent him a text about how he was really rude to me and kept interrogating my every behaviour. I also sent him a pic of his broken glasses which he had dropped in my bag to never ask for it back. He replied and said I was right and that he was sorry. however he then switched the subject saying that he was upset that I would break them and wished I had kept it. When I said sorry for breaking them he was like it is fine but the conversation ended there. I didn’t really get any kind of real remorse from his end and honestly felt like he had cared more about his item than the way he would treat me. Also who keeps someone’s items after they are treated like that?
